Houston | Jin Yuan Cafe: A Delicious Hidden Gem

This Shanghai-style snack shop is tucked away in the food court of Katy’s 99 Ranch Market. The space is small, but the menu is packed with options, and the dumplings are all handmade to order. As a Zhejiang native, I have a soft spot for the cuisine from the Yangtze River Delta region, and this place has plenty of dishes that I love. I really struggled to choose because everything looked so good! 🍜 Scallion Oil Noodles: Once mixed, every strand of noodle is coated in the sauce. The aroma is incredibly rich. The texture of the noodles and the flavor of the scallion oil sauce are both excellent, and the whole bowl is just $6. πŸ₯© Pork Rib and Glutinous Rice Cake: You can choose between pork or chicken. We went with the chicken, which was incredibly crispy. The rice cake was soft and chewy, and it tasted amazing with the sauce. πŸ«“ Pickled Vegetable Meat Pie: This was a bit underwhelming. I think it would be much better with dried pickled vegetables instead of the ones they used. Snow Vegetable and Shredded Pork Noodles: The flavor is quite light, which might appeal to those who prefer a milder taste. My friend added vinegar and chili to make it more palatable. *On a side note, I also stumbled upon the popular blueberry bread in the bakery section of 99 Ranch!
