Food Diary | DC | Charcoal Grilled Meat in Winter
📍Maydan This place has been in my bookmarks for years, so long that I had even forgotten about it 😅 My boyfriend made the reservation, and to my surprise, it turned out to be a place on my list when we arrived at the door 😂 Funny story, there was a mix-up with the reservation. My boyfriend meant to book this place but ended up booking a restaurant starting with ‘M’ next door. I suggested we just check if there’s a walk-in spot since we were already at the door, and lucky us, there were two seats available at the bar! As soon as you walk in, you’re greeted by a massive grill in the center, which is super impressive, but I’m not sure if it’s to highlight the charcoal grill or what, but the whole restaurant is pretty dark, making it hard to see anything 😅 Since it was our first time and I wasn’t super hungry, we ordered a few small dishes to share and sample, instead of going for their large meat platters. In hindsight, the grilled meat is where it’s at! For appetizers, we had the fattoush salad and green hummus.Personally, I found the salad way too salty, like it was a mix of pickled cucumbers and onions 😅 But my boyfriend liked it. The green hummus was delicious to me, with spinach added for the green factor, making it creamy yet refreshing. Served with freshly baked, hot bread, it was impossible to stop eating. For vegetarian options, we tried the grilled halloumi and eggplant. I thought the halloumi would be salty, but it had a thick glaze and was surprisingly sweet… another dish my boyfriend liked more than I did. The eggplant was decent, well-cooked with minimal seasoning, mostly flavored by the zatar sauce on top – nothing special but no complaints either. The grilled meat was a highlight – we ordered chicken and lamb, and both were fantastic!! The seasoning and cooking were spot on 👏🏻 The chicken was exceptionally tender and juicy, which is rare to find! The lamb was even better, the kind of dish you keep eating even when you’re full 😭 Next time, I’m definitely going for the grilled lamb leg. In summary, don’t overcomplicate things here – just go for the meat! 📷 iPhone 15 Pro #WinterAndGrilledMeat #dmv #MyLife #WeekendHappySnippets #TreasureRestaurantShare #dc #dcfoodie #EatAndDrink #GrilledMeat #MiddleEasternCuisine
