Galle Dutch Fort Unmissable Experiences

1️⃣ Galle Fort City Walk The ancient city is not only home to the Dutch-built fortifications and city walls but also a variety of unique shops and restaurants. Strolling through the streets of Galle in search of distinctive handicrafts, enjoying a cup of afternoon tea, and savoring exotic culinary feasts can be an experience full of delight. 2️⃣ Visit Art Galleries Galle is brimming with culture and vitality, and the streets are lined with numerous art galleries. These include the Galle Fort Art Museum, the Nesrody Gallery, and the Lanka Life Museum of Modern Art, all of which are worth exploring. 3️⃣ Visit the National Maritime Museum Located within the Galle Fort, the National Maritime Museum may be small in scale but is exceptionally well-presented. The museum focuses on the city's maritime and fishing connections, as well as the surrounding marine ecosystems. Opened in 1992, it is housed in a Dutch warehouse dating back to 1671, perfectly showcasing the historical bond between the city and the sea. The museum suffered significant damage in the 2004 tsunami but fortunately reopened in 2010. 4️⃣ Enjoy the Lighthouse Sunset The iconic Galle lighthouse stands at 26.5 meters tall and is the oldest lighthouse in Sri Lanka, looking particularly beautiful during sunset. Initially built by the British in 1848, standing at the foot of the lighthouse and gazing out at the Indian Ocean offers a unique experience. 5️⃣ Experience Stilt Fishing Stilt fishing is mainly concentrated along the coast from Galle to Mirissa. This is a unique fishing method in Sri Lanka. It is said that early fishermen, unable to afford boats, came up with the idea of fishing directly from wooden poles in the shallow waters, and astonishingly, their hooks are baitless. #Galle#Galle Dutch Fort#Sri lanka #Sri lanka trip#Trip diary
