Greenville | A German Bistro Near the BMW Factory 🇩🇪
Spartanburg is the main production hub for BMW X models—and when there’s a German restaurant right near a German company’s factory, you just know it’s gonna be good! I’d never really had proper German food before, so when my boyfriend and his coworkers planned a meal here, I jumped at the chance to try it out! 📍 Hans & Franz Biergarten Address: 3124 S Highway 14, Greenville, SC 29615 Average Cost: ~$30+ per person 🍺 First Up: German Beer (A Must-Try!) The name has “Biergarten” right in it—so ordering a German beer was non-negotiable! The server recommended the Weihenstephan Dark—it’s a draft beer with the most prominent sweetness. I’m not usually a beer person, but I actually loved this one—no bitter aftertaste like some regular beers! It was smooth and easy to drink. 🥨 Pretzel (A Total Winner!) As someone who’s obsessed with soft pretzels, I had to order one—and we got the monster-sized pretzel to share among 4 people. It was perfect! This is hands down the best pretzel I’ve had in the U.S.—it came out warm, with a chewy inside and a slightly crispy exterior. Dipping it in the accompanying mustard sauce took it to another level—so tasty! 🍖 German Pork Knuckle (A Classic!) When you think of German food, pork knuckle comes to mind—and this place does it right! For under $30, you get a whole huge pork knuckle—easily enough to split between two people. I’m not a big fan of pork knuckle myself, but my boyfriend and his coworkers raved about it—said it was authentic and delicious, so it’s a definite “go for it” if you love this dish! Every entree lets you pick 2 sides—I recommend the sauerkraut and cucumber salad. They’re classic German sides that cut through the richness perfectly (super refreshing!). 🌭 German Sausage Sampler (My Favorite!) If pork knuckle isn’t your thing, the sausage sampler plate is a great alternative! It comes with two types of sausages (Weisswurst and Bratwurst) plus a pork chop—and let me tell you, the sausages were incredibly juicy (they literally burst with flavor when you bit into them!). The pork chop was also amazing—tender with great flavor. (Pro tip: This entree also lets you pick 2 sides—same recommendation for sauerkraut and cucumber salad 🍔 Signature Cheese Bomb Burger (For Cheese Lovers!) We also tried their signature Cheese Bomb Beef Burger—and if you love cheese, this is for you! It’s smothered in cheese sauce—so indulgent and satisfying. The beef patty was juicy too, and the side of fries that came with it was crispy and delicious. 📝 Final Thoughts Besides the amazing food, the restaurant’s decor is so cozy and has that perfect German biergarten vibe—I’ll definitely be coming back for seconds (and thirds!)! The only downside? There aren’t enough servers. Every time we wanted to order something or ask for refills, we had to wait around 10 minutes. If you’re in a hurry, try to avoid peak meal times. P.S. If you’re here on a weekday after lunch, you can swing by the nearby BMW Zentrum Museum (it’s not open on weekends, though!)—a fun little extra if you’re into cars! #Greenville #GreenvilleSC #GermanCuisine #GermanRestaurant #GermanPorkKnuckle #GermanSausage #GermanBurger #GermanBeer #WeekendFoodTour #FoodExploration #ValentinesDayDateSpots
