Hanmaru Gamjatang Did Not Disappoint
These past few days in Boston have been freezing, with wind chills well below -10°C — the perfect excuse for a hot, comforting meal! I had heard many people recommend Hanmaru Gamjatang, but some mentioned that the quality had dipped since the ownership changed. After checking recent Google reviews—most of which were still positive—I decided to give it a try. The menu is available via QR code in Chinese, English, and Korean. We ordered their signature pork bone stew, braised pork belly (half pork belly, half pork trotters), and galbi. The food truly didn’t disappoint—every dish, even the complimentary banchan, was delicious. (In my photos, you can tell we were already halfway through eating before remembering to snap a picture! 😅📸) I especially loved the potato salad and pickled onions among the sides. The braised pork belly and galbi were a huge hit with the kids. 👨👩👧👦❤️ The only thing that struck me as odd was that the menu mentioned dumplings in the stew, but I didn’t see any in the pot. I probably should’ve asked the staff, but we were so absorbed in enjoying the meal that I just brushed it off—maybe I misread? Could this be what people meant by “reduced portions”? 🤔 After our satisfying dinner, we popped into the nearby HeyTea and Machi Machi for a sweet bubble tea dessert — the perfect cozy finish to a chilly Boston night. 🧋✨ #BostonFood #KoreanFood #AllstonKoreanFood #Allston #CantGoWrongWithThisMenu
