Happy meal eaten in Yogyakarta city
We had a relaxed schedule in Yogyakarta, so we randomly explored some local dishes – all of which were delicious! 🍒🍒 We’re sharing them here for your reference. Make sure to bring plenty of cash; most places only accept cash, especially local eateries that are popular with locals and serve amazing food.🍣🍳 🟡 KEDAI MAKAN HIQMAT A 4.8-star chicken restaurant on Google, which we found thanks to tempting photos of whole roasted chicken. They offer 4 flavors, with options for whole chicken or 1/4 chicken rice sets. 👀The owner’s 7-year-old daughter speaks excellent English, making communication easy. Probably due to religious beliefs, they don’t serve pork, so the local chicken here is mostly tender and juicy, never dry.🍺 Price per person: 35-70k IDR (We ordered 2 half chickens and 2 servings of rice for 2 people, and finished everything!) Payment: Cash only🌼 🟠 Rumah Makan Padang Lima Sekawan Highly recommended – super tasty and affordable! The front desk lady speaks great English, which is convenient.🍌 🌺🌺 We ate here on our first night, found it on Google. It serves local Padang food, with a salty flavor profile. The coconut milk is fresh without being greasy, and the chili sauce goes perfectly with rice. Their fried catfish is a must-try – we couldn’t stop thinking about it! 👌🏻 We even took a taxi back before leaving, but unfortunately, they closed early 😭 Price per person: 23k IDR (around 10 RMB, including a drink – the price is amazing❗️) Payment: Cash only 🟢 Zona Seafood🦐🐙 Specializes in crab and fish, with nearly 10 flavors to choose from – great for trying something new. The overall taste is on the sweet side, which I (used to salty flavors) didn’t adapt to as well, but my husband, who likes Fujian-style flavors, loved it. For crab, we recommend the black pepper flavor.🍤 Price per person: 100k IDR (varies by order), around 50 RMB Payment: Cash only🌭 🔵 Lunaria Coffee Yogyakarta A casual café with light meals, popular on Instagram. Many locals work here. They serve pasta, Indonesian dishes, grilled chicken, and fried chicken – all tasty. Drinks are relatively pricey by local standards. No need to go out of your way, but it’s a good spot to rest if you need a break.🧀 Price per person: 50-70k IDR (including drinks), around 20-30 RMB Payment: Cash + credit card 🔴 Karta Coffee & Eatery After returning from Borobudur, our minibus dropped us off on Malioboro Street, so we randomly picked this place nearby. It has a high 4.9 rating on Google. 🍭 We tried the local specialty “Kopi Walk” – the drinking method is a bit unrefined. The staff checked with us repeatedly to make sure we wanted it, probably worried we wouldn’t be used to it. It’s similar to sipping street coffee slowly; you pour the coffee into a saucer and sip it bit by bit. 🍼 It’s said to be a leftover drinking style from the Dutch colonial period – a novel experience! Price per person: 70-100k IDR, around 40 RMB Payment: Cash + credit card🥓 #YogyakartaGuide#YogyakartaFood#IndonesiaTravelGuide#100WaystoDrinkCoffee#Indonesia#SoutheastAsia#NeverStopExploring
