Zona Seafood (Kotabaru) — Restaurant in Yogyakarta

I was invited to have dinner here. Highly recommended to reserve in advance as it is very crowded. There are indoor and outdoor areas available. We sat on the 2nd floor of the rooftop, it's just that for the rainy season we don't really recommend it, if it rains we have to rush to the indoor area. There are prayer rooms and toilets here, ample parking space, quite friendly service. A variety of seafood menus are available. We ordered fried squid, green prawns in Padang sauce, cah bean sprouts, capcay shrimp, salted egg flour eggplant, honey grilled shrimp, kale (but served with spinach), and parpare grilled fish. The place was semi-outdoors so it was not air-conditioned. It was a bit steamy and hot, but not the worst if you happen to sit near one of the fans.

The food was tasty, quite well-seasoned. The portion wasn't the biggest, but it was not too small either. It was just enough food, but I would have enjoyed just a bit more.

The fish was moist and savoury, the squid was also tender and nicely saucy. Slightly spicy but not necessarily "hot". The sambal or chili paste was also nicely spicy and fragrant.

Rice and tea were nice. They were good accompaniments to the meal. Prices were pretty good, quite affordable.

Overall, solid experience.

The food is top tier. Everything's here is delicious and umami. I really liked the shrimp satay it was cherry on top. The milkfish dish was also chef kiss. We ordered 3 different vegetables dishes for 3 people since we liked their veggies as well. However, the beverages were quite too runny like there are too much water added on it. I personally didn't really like it but since we were after strolling around Malioboro (intensely) and were hangry (hungry & angry craving for food) that didn't bother us much. The best part is the price, very affordable for everyone, including students if they want to visit here. Definitely will comeback and added in the Jogja's Most Visited...
