The coastal town of Hastings holds a pivotal place in British history—it was here that the Norman Conquest began! In 1066, William, Duke of Normandy, landed here to challenge Harold for the English throne. On October 14, the decisive Battle of Hastings took place, leading to William's victory and his coronation as "William the Conqueror" at Westminster on Christmas Day. This marked the start of the Norman dynasty, replacing Anglo-Saxon rule and reshaping England's ties to Europe. Beyond its history, Hastings is a charming seaside getaway—doable as a day trip from London! Here’s my itinerary: My Hastings Adventure 🚂🌊 1️⃣ The Rainbow 🌈 Ate fish & chips + roast beef (£26 total, no service charge)—delicious! 2️⃣ Di Pola’s Ice Cream 🍦 Tasty but pricey: ~£4.50 for two scoops. 3️⃣ Hastings Old Town 🦐 Full of seafood spots! The Net Shop (hard to find on Google Maps—it’s on the north side of the street) has great prices. 4️⃣ Hastings Miniature Railway � Cute tiny train ride! 5️⃣ Hastings Fisherman’s Museum 🎣 Free entry! Features an old fishing boat and local maritime history. 6️⃣ Hastings Shipwreck Museum ⚓ Salvaged relics, East India Company artifacts, and epic naval tales. 7️⃣ Hastings Antiques Warehouse 🕰️ Treasure trove of vintage finds! 8️⃣ The West Hill Lift 🚞 A scenic cliff railway (or hike up the nearby path for free!). West Hill’s views are stunning! 9️⃣ Hastings Castle 🏰 Didn’t go inside (£6.75 entry), but great photo ops! 🔟 The Crime Museum 🕵️‍♂️ (£9.50) Skipped due to time, but looks intriguing! Final Thoughts: A perfect sunny-day escape!
