Hike Through Waterfalls in Portland | See 10 Waterfalls in One Trail

I checked out the Trail of Ten Falls—a hike that lets you see 10 waterfalls in one go, and its name says it all! Located in Silver Falls State Park, south of Portland, it’s just over an hour’s drive from the city. 【Recommended Ways to Explore】 🔶 Quick Experience Version 🔶 Park at the South Parking Lot and hike to South Falls. It’s the most popular waterfall, great for family outings. Takes about 40 minutes total—refer to Map 10 for the route 🚶. 🔶 Essence Condensed Version 🔶 1.5-Hour Version: Combine the Quick Experience Version with a stop at Lower South Falls (route reference included). Though Lower South Falls has a smaller vertical drop, it’s wider—and this is the real “waterfall cave” (you can walk behind the cascade) 💧. 2.5-Hour Version: After the 1.5-hour route, drive from the South Parking Lot to the North Parking Lot, then hike to North Falls and return the same way. North Falls is similar to the first two (you can also walk behind it), but the cave path behind the waterfall is deeper—there’s even a bench inside to sit and rest 🪑. 🔶 Fitness Challenge Version 🔶 Hike the full loop to see all 10 waterfalls. The trail is 7–9 miles long (the 7.4-mile mark on AllTrails is definitely an understatement!). The round trip takes about 4.5 hours. While the elevation gain is mild if you go clockwise, it’s still tiring—especially the stretch from North to South, which has no scenic views. To see Winter Falls, you’ll need to take a 20-minute detour. Honestly, after seeing so many waterfalls, you’ll probably only remember the 3 mentioned in the Essence Version plus Middle North Falls by the end 😅. 【Notes】 The restroom near the trailhead at the South Parking Lot is currently closed, leading to long lines at the remaining women’s restrooms. Only pit toilets are available at the North Parking Lot 🚻. Pay the $5 parking fee at the self-service machine, then place the receipt on your windshield—rangers do check for it 💰. Some sections have puddles and mud. Wear waterproof hiking boots; trekking poles help with balance 🥾. T-Mobile has no signal here. Download offline maps in advance. Taking photos and videos at the waterfalls drains phone battery fast—bring a power bank 📱. 【Nearby Spots】 Abiqua Falls Adelman Peony Gardens (best for peony blooms in May–June 🌸) Outlet malls #Portland #MyFavoriteWeekendLife #SeattleArea #SeattleWeekendIdeas #SummerOutings #HealingScenery #RecorderOfRomanticLife #OutdoorPhotographyWeek #SummerBreezeInTheAir #RecommendedHikingTrails #SceneryOnTheTrip #CloseToNature 🌟
