Hike Through Waterfalls in Portland | See 10 Waterfalls in One Trail

Lower South Falls is the second waterfall you’ll come across if you’re doing the Trail of Ten Falls in a clockwise direction, and it is absolutely beautiful. If you’re short on time and can’t do the full trail, I highly recommend combining South Falls and Lower South Falls — these two alone will give you the best experience of the park’s beauty without taking up your entire day. Together, they can be completed in under an hour, and both offer truly memorable views. Similar to South Falls, the trail here allows you to walk behind the waterfall, giving you a unique perspective and some fantastic photo opportunities. The sound of the rushing water combined with the lush green surroundings creates a peaceful and refreshing atmosphere. The path to Lower South Falls is well-maintained and relatively easy, making it accessible for most visitors, including families. Overall, Lower South Falls is a must-see stop on the loop and pairs perfectly with South Falls for a shorter but equally rewarding hike.

We visited in August so the fall was not as robust like if you’d visit in April. But still much better than Ramona Falls. The hike from here to the South lodge cafe is all uphill and can get pretty steep. I’m not sure how people wearing slides were able to do this without hurting themselves. There’s loose gravel that make it more dangerous.

This waterfalls is in my opinion not as good as south falls, but still they are pretty amazing, and just the fact that you can go behind it into the cave is astonishing and quite an experience. The way down with the stairs might be a bit treacherous, it can be wet, slippery and/or muddy, so be prepared. I also recommend doing the whole loop to enjoy the lush trees, moss, wild animals and other falls on the way. Of course, for better views and pictures come here in late spring. The falls...
