Houston | Worth-Trying Japanese Cuisine in Uptown
After finishing finals and having some free time, I wanted to review the sushi I’ve had twice recently. When it comes to sushi and sashimi, you really get what you pay for. Sashimi and Nigiri: Sweet Shrimp 🦐: Standard quality (comes with fried shrimp heads, but still a bit pricey). Squid 🦑: Crispy and chewy with a great texture. It lacks a bit of sweetness, but for the price, it’s pretty good. Salmon 🐟: Decent quality, quite fatty and moist—nothing to complain about. Scallop 🦪: Average. The flavor and texture didn’t meet expectations. Tuna Akami (Bluefin): Without proper aging, this cut is a bit sour and not particularly delicious. Hand Rolls (Maki Rolls): The flavors are pretty similar across the board, and the recipes are clearly listed. You can choose based on your preference for ingredients. I’d recommend the Volcano Roll: It comes with a dramatic flame 🔥 on top, featuring grilled scallop and salmon on the outside, and crab meat inside. It’s a good choice. Appetizers and Snacks: Dynamite 🍛: Similar to spicy mayo mixed with fried shrimp. The taste is decent. Kobe Hot Rock 🥩: Not recommended. This dish is quite abstract. You get a hot stone to grill your own meat, but the stone cools down quickly after just a few slices, and the beef isn’t actually Kobe 👎🏻. Orange Salmon 🍊: A fruity and fragrant version of salmon sashimi. It’s neither particularly good nor bad. Overall, the restaurant has a fancy appearance and doesn’t look like a typical Japanese restaurant. It’s more like a bar. The average cost per person is $50 to $100. The sashimi is of acceptable quality, and the rolls are well-seasoned. The service and environment are fine. If you’re craving sushi but don’t want to spend too much, this place is a good option.
