Houston Locals, You’ve Got to Try This Place!
🥩We were on a trip to Houston and found this restaurant on Yelp. It’s pure American comfort food—high in calories, so if you can’t handle two of these, you might want to steer clear. My whole family agrees that their Gumbo is the best we’ve ever had. I’m a huge Gumbo fan and have tried many different versions, but this one stood out. It doesn’t have an overpowering seasoning flavor; it’s just pure and authentic. The dish is packed with chicken, a whole crab, and an egg.🥩 ⭐️We also ordered another recommended appetizer: fried pork belly. It came with potato chunks, white sauce, and cheese. Surprisingly, even though I’m not a fan of potatoes or cheese, I found it delicious and the combination with the pork belly was amazing.⭐️ 💰What shocked us was that after finishing just the two appetizers, our two adults and two teenage kids were already pretty full. When our sandwiches arrived, we were all stunned. The fish and chicken pieces were enormous; the buns seemed more like decorations. In the end, only my son managed to finish his fried chicken sandwich, and I barely made it through a quarter of my fried fish sandwich.💰 🥩 I strongly suggest that two people share one sandwich, or split any main course, as I saw another table’s fried fish was also a huge piece. The only downside was that the restaurant was understaffed. You have to get a pager first, wait your turn, and then order directly at the counter. We waited for over half an hour just for this step. After ordering, the appetizers came quickly, but we waited another half hour or so for the main course. There were no waitstaff, and you had to serve yourself for drinks. We went on a Sunday at around 2 p.m., and there were still many people coming in, despite the long wait. I wonder if it’s better on weekdays. If you live near Houston and enjoy soul food, this place is worth a try. The portions are huge and delicious! #LifeInNorthAmerica #HoustonFood #AmericanDining
