How to Have Fun in Kaliningrad 🤪

A frequent traveler (twice a year!) tells you all about it! ✈️ My Trips: First trip: Dec 29, 2024 ~ Jan 1, 2025 (flew from Moscow) Second trip: Jun 14, 2025 ~ Jun 18, 2025 (flew from St. Petersburg) 🏰 Where to Go? Kaliningrad city center Zelenogradsk (Cat Town) 🐱 Svetlogorsk (Snail Town) 🐌 🏡 Where to Stay? Stay in Zelenogradsk (Cat Town)! 🐾 Book homestays on Суточно.ру or Ostrovok. Why? Close to the airport 🛬, near the Curonian Spit, and has direct trains to Svetlogorsk and the city center. 🎒 How to Get Around? We like to take it easy—most places don’t open early, so we start around noon. Here’s a suggested itinerary: 🐱 Zelenogradsk (Cat Town) On arrival day, check into your homestay in the afternoon and explore the main street (search for Курортница—where the bronze statue is). Lots of cute shops! 🥨 Try the almond-flavored butterfly pastry sold on the main street—so yummy! 🥙 Book a table at Облака Restaurant (seaside view 🌊). Reserve via restoran-oblaka.ru. They’ll call to confirm. 🏙️ Kaliningrad City 🚅 Buy train tickets on Russian Railways App: Зеленоградск-Новый → Калининград Северный. Adult: 78 RUB. Student discounts (half-price) available at the counter (PhD students not eligible 😢). Recommended route: Walk 5 mins from Северный station to German restaurant 🍖 у гашека for pork knuckle and beer. Visit the Amber Museum 🐜 (Музей Янтаря). Attend an organ concert ⛪️ at Königsberg Cathedral (Кафедральный собор). Check schedules and buy tickets at sobor39.ru. Student: 300 RUB, Adult: 700 RUB. Arrive 30 mins early for good seats! Take photos at Рыбная деревня (Fish Village) 📸. Don’t miss the delicious croissants 🥐 at Лев Бородинский bakery nearby. Return to Cat Town by train from Южный station (closer). Buy tickets on the spot. 🐌 Svetlogorsk (Snail Town) 🚅 Take train to Светлогорск-2 station. Behind it is a yellow cable car 🚡 that goes down to the seaside. We just wandered around—lots of amber shops here, and prices seem lower! ‼️ Return by taxi. 🐱 Back to Cat Town On the last day: Visit the Curonian Spit and see Lithuania in the distance 🌄. Check out the Cat Museum 🐈 (Мурариум) and ride the seaside Ferris wheel 🎡 for a panoramic view of the town.
