๐ The Basilica di Sant'Andrea della Valle is a papal basilica in Rome, Italy, and the mother church of the Theatine Order. It also serves as a titular church for cardinal priests. ๐ It is a Roman Catholic basilica and papal minor basilica located in Piazza Mantua, Lombardy, Italy. It is one of the main works of the Italian Renaissance architecture in Northern Italy from the 15th century. ๐ The church began construction in 1462, commissioned by Ludovico III Gonzaga and designed by Leon Battista Alberti. It was built on the site of a former Benedictine monastery, whose bell tower still stands. The church was not completed for 328 years, and although Albeetti's design was later altered, it is still considered one of Alberti's most complete works. ๐ The exterior of the church may seem ordinary, but the interior is exquisitely beautiful. It's highly recommended to visit just before sunset in the evening, which is the most beautiful golden hour. #TravelBits #RomeChurches #Church #BasilicaOfSaintAndrewOfTheValley
