Kandy Local Recommended Restaurants: The Kings of Cost-Effectiveness
Red List (Highly Recommended): Balaji Dosai (Indian Cuisine) (Average cost per person: 10~20 ) The main dish is Dosa (Indian hand-held pancakes), filled with various stuffings and served with different types of dips. This is a popular Indian restaurant among Kandy locals—the basic version is delicious! At just 300 rupees, it comes with a potato filling.😊 The restaurant also offers other staples like fried rice and curry (which I haven’t tried). Their hand-held pancakes come highly recommended by locals—you can order randomly without worrying about disappointment. Hela Bojun Hala (Sri Lanka’s Own "Sha County Snacks")💕 (Average cost per person: 5~20 ) A national chain and the king of cost-effectiveness for Sri Lankan cuisine. Here, you can taste the most authentic Sri Lankan dishes—no other place comes close. It’s a local restaurant worth revisiting again and again. Feel free to dive right in!😒 Cafe the Vibe (Kandy Locals’ Top Pick for Sri Lankan Cuisine) (Average cost per person: 30~50 ) By local standards, this is a "small luxury" restaurant. "This is my favorite place. The prices are a bit higher, but the quality is guaranteed," said the Sri Lankan guy who brought me here 😃. You can enjoy a variety of Ceylonese specialties here, and the environment is perfect for taking photos. If you want to experience local cuisine without going to a hole-in-the-wall joint, this is the place to be. Thirsty Spot / Sub Spot (Kandy’s Own- Local Version of a Popular Chinese Burger Chain)💕 (Average cost per person: 13 ) The fruit juices are pure fresh-pressed, but remember to tell the staff "no extra sugar"—otherwise, they’ll add an excessive amount of white sugar. The main dishes are spicy chicken burgers and old Kandy chicken rolls. Prices are as shown in the pictures. This place is popular with local young people, so you may need to wait during peak hours.😊 ORIO ICE CREAM (Average cost per person: 2~3 ) It’s located on the right turn of the main road downhill to the city center—no need to cross the road. Just follow Google Maps to find it. There are many ice cream flavors to choose from .💕 Recommendations: Kochchi (Green Chili) Ice Cream 🍦 Salty and spicy (similar to Shanxi’s "oil-splashed chili ice cream"). The initial taste is like mung bean paste. The staff will serve three scoops for 100 rupees (about 2.5 ).😊 Fruit & Nut Ice Cream 🍦 "Fruit & Nut" literally translates to "fruit and nut" flavor. If you ask for a more specific description—it tastes exactly likeg’s traditional "Zilaihong" mooncake. Also 100 rupees per serving. Rainbow Ice Cream 🍦 "Fall in love with the rainbow, eat the rainbow." A perfect replica of the taste of childhood rainbow candy. It has a hint of lemon sourness and the sweetness of sugar coating. It looks great in photos on sunny days. However, those with high blood sugar should be cautious—suggest pairing it with insulin. 100 rupees per serving.😊 #MyLesser#Ambuluwawa #ambuluwawa #kandy #Kandylove#Kandyfood
