Kentucky/Cincinnati Food Review
Visited La Hiro Sushi and Sweets today! Based on Google Maps and Xiaohongshu reviews, I’d recommend making a reservation—it’s a small shop run by a lovely couple. The auntie serves tables while the uncle handles the cooking. 👩🍳👨🍳 Note: The kitchen stops orders at 8:15 PM and the restaurant closes at 8:30, so plan accordingly! ① Crème Brûlée: I started with a crème brûlée before my meal—auntie seemed a bit surprised lol 🍮 It came with a freshly torched caramel top, decorated with a piece of fruit and cream. Super delicate and rich in texture. Best paired with hot tea! ② Tempura Platter: The platter included 3 shrimp, bell pepper, eggplant, and zucchini, served with a light soy dip. The batter was incredibly light and not oily at all. The soy sauce was mild—you can dunk the whole piece without overpowering the ingredients’ natural flavor. 🍤 ③ Karaage (Japanese Fried Chicken): A must-order appetizer! The coating was thin and soft, and the chicken inside was tender and juicy. No extra sauce provided, but a squeeze of lemon cuts the richness perfectly. 🍋 ④ Nabeyaki Udon: It was my first time seeing nabeyaki udon in the US! Simmered in a soy-based broth like sukiyaki, it came with one tempura shrimp, a fish cake, and some shiitake mushrooms. The flavor was just okay, but it warmed me up completely on a cold winter night. 🍜❄️ ⑤ Seafood Donburi: The biggest surprise! I don’t eat raw seafood, but the bowl looked fresh and generously filled. The sweet tamagoyaki (egg cake) had a firm texture. It also came with miso soup and an unexpected side of tempura—I thought the auntie made a mistake at first 😂 My boyfriend absolutely loved it! 🍚🦐 ⑥ Matcha Cake: After the meal, we tried the matcha cake 🍵🍰 The matcha flavor was subtle, and the cake was slightly dry since it’s pre-made, but… The cream hiding crushed red beans added texture and aroma! Served with a few drops of tangy fruit jam and what might be mocha sauce—looked elegant and tasted lovely. Overall, we left feeling happy and full. There wasn’t much service, but the food was fresh, delicious, and satisfying—both for the stomach and the soul. The price was more than reasonable: all this plus two drinks for just over $60! 💰🤯 Headed out contentedly to watch Avatar after! 🎬💙 #LaHiro #CincinnatiEats #JapaneseFood #KYFoodScene #FoodReview #CoupleRun #CozyVibes #SushiLovers #Tempura #MatchaDessert
