Kenzo Tange and Kunio Maekawa
๐Kenzo Tange and Kunio Maekawa ๐๏ธ After visiting the Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art, we passed by the Kyoto National Museum of Modern Art and the Kyoto City Hall, both of which are also worth checking out! ๐บ ๐ The National Museum of Modern Art was designed by Pritzker Prize winner Kenzo Tange. During the visit, I was truly moved by the beauty of the artifacts. ๐I particularly loved the tea utensils, the giant-sized chairs, and the gracefully designed paper knives. ๐Since photography wasn't allowed, I've shared some images I found online. This lacquerware cabinet, inlaid with mother-of-pearl, is absolutely dazzling โ it feels like it should be part of a woman's dowry (what on earth am I thinking?). ๐ ๐The Kyoto City Hall was designed by Kunio Maekawa, a pioneer of Japanese modernist architecture who studied under Le Corbusier. The first floor of the Kyoto City Hall also features a Tsutaya Books store, designed by Kenya Hara. ๐ You can wander around and enjoy some snacks there. ๐ #KyotoTravel #KyotoExploration ๐
