L.A. Metro Gives Green Light To Dodgers Gondola — The 1.2-Mile Route Will Connect Union Station To The Stadium
After years of planning and debate, the Dodgers gondola project is moving forward. The aerial transit system, has faced legal challenges and community scrutiny, making it (perhaps) one of Los Angeles’ most discussed transportation proposals in recent years. Now, L.A. Metro’s Board of Directors voted to recertify the revised environmental report for the gondola, a 437‐page supplemental environmental impact report (SEIR) ordered by a court earlier this year after legal challenges. Because of that recertification, supporters of the project can now move ahead to seek the remaining approvals from city and state agencies required before construction can begin, as reported by the *L.A. Times.* The project entails a 1.2-mile route linking [Union Station](https://secretlosangeles.com/union-station-los-angeles-history/) and Dodger Stadium, passing through Chinatown and the Los Angeles State Historic Park. It’ll include three stations: Alameda, Chinatown/State Park, and Dodger Stadium, along with a non-passenger junction and three towers supporting the cables. For now, the gondola project is back again on the table, pitched as a sustainable transit solution capable of carrying thousands of fans on game days. The gondola aims to offer a [zero‐emissions,](https://secretlosangeles.com/california-hydrogen-powered-zemu-train/) solution, potentially reducing traffic congestion in surrounding neighborhoods. Still, opponents to the project remain very vocal about their concerns over environmental harm, tree removal in historic green spaces and limited traffic‐reduction benefits.
