LA Day Trip|Dare to Try Sea Cave Kayaking at Channel Islands! 🛶🌊

If you feel like your LA summer needs more challenge and adventure—this is it! Go for the California Channel Island Adventure Sea Caves Kayak tour! (Not the basic 2-hour one!) 🚣♂️ The day we went, the weather was rough with big waves. Just after our first cave, we hit a strong current 🌊 My boyfriend and I couldn’t paddle out and started spinning in place. Thankfully, our guide rushed back and tied the front of our kayak to the back of his with a rope. Rowing solo, he pulled us both out like a pro! We were so grateful (gave him a big tip later—pulling against the current was no joke!). 🪨 Cave Challenge: This tour takes you through about 8 sea caves. Many are pitch dark inside—the guide goes in first with a headlamp to light up the space, then calls each kayak in one by one. Some cave entrances are so narrow you have to go through single file, without paddles, just by touching the walls. Be careful not to paddle too fast—I cut my palm on sharp rocks and started bleeding… In the darkness, you’ll feel a primal fear—fighting currents, hearing waves crash against rocks… it’s intense but thrilling! 🦅 On some cave ceilings, you’ll see flocks of seabirds lined up. You’ll also… “smell” them when they fly overhead. 😅 ⏱️ Duration: 4.5 hours 🚢 Departure Point: To kayak at Channel Islands National Park, you first need to take a ferry—the islands are 20–40 km off the coast. Book through the official ferry service: Island Packers Cruises 👉 Website: islandpackers.com. Depart from 📍 Ventura Harbor. Pro tip: Book the ferry ticket before booking the kayak tour! 🗒️ Tour Includes: Basic kayaking intro—proper sitting posture (your back will thank you later!), paddling coordination, spinning, turning, and backward paddling (super useful inside caves! 😅). 📷 Scenery: Paddle up close to seals 🦭, seabirds, and giant California kelp forests. Be careful—your paddle can get tangled in kelp, but it also works as a great “parking brake”! 🚨 Important Notes: No food or fresh water on the island—bring your own! No trash cans, and no emergency services. Bring necessary meds and plenty of sunscreen! Have you ever tried sea cave kayaking? What’s the wildest outdoor adventure you’ve taken on?
