Today I was absolutely ravenous — my friend suggested uni, so we headed straight to Ishi. After all these years, their quality remains impressively consistent. Not sure why they’re not more hyped — they’re quietly solid! Both Japanese and Santa Barbara uni were fresh and flawless — the former sweet and delicate, the latter big and creamy. Sometimes uni can get fishy halfway through a meal, but today’s “uni feast” was perfect from start to finish. Shows their ingredient standards stay high regardless of foot traffic. The grilled black cod was buttery and delicious. The Las Vegas roll with scallops was tender and flavorful. The server even remembered me after three years away from LA — such a warm touch.
