LA Seafood Market Visit|Dory Fish Market 🐟🦀

As someone from the south who doesn’t usually splurge on seafood, I had to check out this spot for affordable fresh catches! Did my research beforehand — crabs and shrimp are only sold on weekends, while Wednesday to Friday only fish is available. The market opens at 5:30 AM on weekends. We arrived around 4:40 AM and there was already a long line! Left line: Crabs 🦀 Middle line: Sea urchin, snails, abalone Right line: Spot prawns and king crab legs! 👑🦐 (Note: king crab is sold together with prawns!) The spot prawn line was the longest and slowest. My boyfriend and I split up — he lined up for crabs while I waited for prawns. By the time he finished buying crabs, I had only moved about ten spots in the prawn line 😅 So go early if you want prawns! Spot prawns were $30/lb (previously shared as $24/lb by others) — big, sweet, and perfect for sashimi or blanching. King crab was surprisingly cheap — around $3/lb! I didn’t bring enough cash since I didn’t know it was sold with prawns, so I only got a small one. Tender and easy to handle though! Crabs (males only that day) were $3/lb — we bought three for $20. Honestly, no need to rush for crabs since there were plenty left. Stone crab was affordable but a bit salty and tricky to prepare — but super hardy, still alive after a day in the fridge! 🧊 Fish were around $10/lb. We only recognized red snapper, so we got that — they clean it for you, but roughly. They also had huge cod, but we skipped it since it was too big. Sea urchin ($7 each) — they’ll open it for you, but it’s still messy to clean at home. Good for a small treat! Abalone: small $10, large $15. The owners here are super kind — they even called us back to return an extra dollar we overpaid! 💖 Overall, totally worth the trip! Free parking nearby. The spot prawns were delicious but pricey. While waiting in line, we enjoyed views of the ocean and sunrise 🌅. Mornings are chilly — bundle up! You can even bring a chair if you don’t like standing.
