Dory Deli — Restaurant in Newport Beach

We happened upon Dory Deli yesterday while visiting the area and decided to give it a try. We ordered the poke nachos and a smash burger with fries. When the food arrived I grabbed the ketchup bottle sitting on the table and when I opened the lid it exploded all over me! It was in my hair, in my eye, all over my shirt, and on the booth! I have NEVER had that happen!!! I was SHOCKED and sat there stunned for a moment. The staff was slow to react. They offered to get me a “rag” as I jumped up and ran to the restroom to wash my eye out, as it was burning terribly! I had to jump in front of a man that was about to walk in to use the restroom and begged him to let me just use the sink quickly. When I looked in the mirror, it was all over my face, up my forehead and into my hair! It stained my hair red! When I returned to the table, there was a dirty looking rag given to me and that was literally ALL THEY DID! They told me this happens ALL THE TIME AND I WAS THE THIRD ONE IT HAPPENED TO TODAY! WHAT???? Why? That’s insane! Why is there not some type of warning? Or a different option? Clearly these bottles need to be replaced! I was not apologized to. I was not offered any compensation! I hadn’t even taken one bite of my now cold food! Which by the way, was ok but not great! No lettuce , tomato or pickles on that burger. Just meat and cheese and a lot of bun! I realize the people working there are very young but there needs to be some type of customer service. I was out of town and had to go buy a new shirt because I was stained and smelled like ketchup! Finally made it here and to boot, I got to try it during OCRW. The menu for OCRW was small but we were able to try their fig burger and club sammie. For side, we got the fries and the fritters. For $10, it was quite good. I have to say the Fig burger was small but packs a punch in flavor! It was cooked perfect and has a hint of goat cheese. Juicy and flavorful. Might have to go back again just for this burger! The club sandwich was fresh and the bacon is thick and crunchy just the way I like it. The fries were a bit too salty but the fritters were amazing.

They had pineapple sculpin on draft when I was there but I didn't get a chance to order it. Their condiments are plenty (love it!) and it's right next to the fountain drink dispenser. The only gripe I have is that you need a key to the bathroom (which I understand totally for beach cities) and the wait for that takes longer than to get your food.

For parking, if you don't want to park next to the pier which can be crazy on weekends...park around the hood and look for street parking. It's free and just a bit of a walk, just got to know...

We went here for lunch on Tuesday (10/20/2020). We ordered a burger, a kids burger, a poke bowl and a fish taco plate. The burgers and poke bowl were brought out without the fish taco plate. I waited for 10 minutes or so and inquired about it only to be told that the fish tacos didn't make it on the order.

5 minutes or so later, I'm presented with a plate of fish and chips that I didnt order. At this point, I told them to cancel the fish tacos because everyone else was done with their meal. After being pressured repeatedly by the server AND the manager to take the fish and and chips that I DID NOT order we were given some day old muffins as compensation and told we wouldn't be charged for the fish and chips that I never even ordered.

NOW I look on my debit card register and they've charged me twice for the meal. One charge for $69 and change and one charge for $71 and change. This place has decent ratings it seems, but the service was absolutely dismal the day we were there.
