Laguna Eats|Classic Chinese Restaurant
A casual review of this Cantonese spot in Laguna Beach — Classic Chinese Restaurant. Stumbled upon it online and decided to give it a try. Note: Lunch and dinner menus differ — we went for dinner. The servers wear white shirts and ties, and the service feels similar to many traditional Cantonese restaurants — not overly warm, but efficient. My ratings (personal opinion, not sponsored): 🏙️ Ambience: 8/10 — Busy, full dining room, tablecloths changed between seatings. 👔 Service: 7/10 — As described above. 🍽️ Food: 7/10 — Lobster was tasty, other dishes were okay. 🦞 Lobster Noodles Pretty good — definitely better than most American-style lobster dishes. The noodles themselves were just average. The server brought the live lobster to our table for selection and confirmed the weight — you can ask for another if you prefer. 🍖 Sweet & Sour Pork Standard — similar to most versions elsewhere. Crispy starch-coated pork with a sweet interior. 🦆 Roast Duck The meat was a bit dry, but the skin was crispy. Maybe I’ve had too much roast duck lately — feels like most places taste the same now. 🥬 Abalone Mushrooms with Greens The vegetables were tender, stir-fried with a starchy sauce (slightly sticky texture). I ordered this because I don’t care for mustard greens. Final thoughts: I wouldn’t have known about this place without seeing it online. Overall, the lobster in the lobster noodles was the standout — other dishes weren’t amazing but weren’t bad either. Lunch prices are more budget-friendly!
