Lesser-Known but Stunning Marseille Fjord Light Hiking

Marseille is a seriously underrated tourist city. To be honest, I was a bit nervous before coming here. But after staying for two days, I found it really charming—full of life and with a unique urban style.😊 The main plan for this trip was a city walk around the Old Port and a fjord hike. This article will focus on the fjord hiking. Fjords are formed by glacial erosion. It's a kind of geological landform that doesn't exist in China. For traveling, it's recommended to choose the Sugiton route. Hiking enthusiasts can download the Mes Calanques app to study by themselves. Attached are the map and introduction of the Sugiton route from the app, as shown in pictures 9-10. Our round-trip took about 2 hours and 30 minutes ⏱️. Hiking starting point: Take bus B1 to Luminy PN des Calanques stop. Getting off, you'll be on the campus of Aix-Marseille University. Walk about 50 meters and you can see the obvious park entrance. There's only one gravel road, so just go straight. Generally, you keep walking along the yellow markers. Later, there will be a fork in the road. From our experience, both sides are passable, leading to the east and west sides of the valley bottom. If you turn left and go down to the valley bottom, there's another road to the other side. From the fork, there are red road signs, and the road starts to get more difficult. Hiking shoes are recommended 👟. The scenery at the valley bottom is extremely beautiful, with several small beaches where you can swim and dive. Bring snacks and drinks, and rest in the shade—it's so pleasant 😊. You can also bring a swimsuit to go into the water, but there's no place to change clothes, so you have to do it yourself in the woods 🌳. When we went, reservations weren't required yet, but it's said that they are needed during peak season. Under the scorching sun in June, although the difficulty of the hiking route was moderate, the process was a bit tough. It was very sunny and there were no supplies at all. But the beautiful scenery at the end was the best reward. The scenery is absolutely no less than that of Antibes in southern France and other places 🏞️. #SouthernFrance #Marseille #MarseilleFjordHikingGuide #MarseilleFjord #FranceTravel #SouthernFranceGetaway #SouthernFranceTourism
