Lobster Pasta Big Enough to Take Home, Silky Gelato
It was a “quick day trip” to Portland (back and forth the same day), but as a coastal city too, its seafood freshness is totally on par with Boston’s. I locked in two popular spots—one for seafood, one for dessert—and even with limited time, I didn’t leave disappointed. Especially that huge plate of lobster pasta; it was so big we had to take leftovers, and it still tasted amazing when reheated the next day! 1️⃣ Street & Co.: Seafood Star by the Waterfront, Lobster Pasta Too Big for Two I’d long heard Street & Co. is a “regular” in Portland’s seafood scene. Tucked on Wharf St near the waterfront, the shop is small but always has a waitlist. Lucky for us, we arrived early and grabbed a window table—glancing up, we could see the sea glistening in the distance. Eating seafood with a sea breeze? The vibe was perfect 🌊! I didn’t hesitate to order their signature Lobster Diavolo, and both of us gasped when it arrived: on a huge plate, hand-made pasta coated in bright red tomato-chili sauce, a whole lobster split open on top, and mussels/clams piled high—even the garlic slices were golden-fried. Just looking at it made my mouth water 😱! First, I picked out the lobster meat—it was firm and bouncy, sweet enough to taste the ocean (no frozen seafood fishiness at all). The mussels and clams were sand-free, juicy when bitten into, and coated in sauce—spicy but savory, no greasiness. The hand-made pasta was cooked just right: chewy but not hard, every strand soaked up the tomato-chili sauce. The mild spice just boosted the flavor, not burning the stomach. We thought “two people can finish this,” but we were stuffed halfway through. The server kindly handed us a takeout box, smiling and saying, “Add a little butter when reheating— the sauce will be even richer!” Sure enough, when I reheated it in a small pot the next day, the melted butter coated the pasta, making it even more fragrant than the day before. I regretted not taking more sauce home! 📍 Street & Co.: 33 Wharf St, Portland, ME 04101 ✨ Recommendations: Lobster Diavolo (must-order! Share with 2-3 people, leftovers taste great reheated), Grilled Scallops (looked amazing at the next table—try it next time) 💡 Tip: Book ahead on weekends. Window seats are hard to get, but eating with a sea view makes it extra nice~ 2️⃣ Gorgeous Gelato: Authentic Italian Gelato Heaven—There’s a Boston Location Too! After seafood, I needed dessert to cut the richness. I found Gorgeous Gelato, drawn by the “hand-made Italian” label. The shop is small, with a blue sign and white doorframe—like it was lifted straight from a Italian street. The freezer was filled with colorful gelato, over 20 flavors, and the server happily handed us spoons for samples 🥄! I tried tiramisu, pistachio, and hazelnut flavors, then went for a pistachio + hazelnut split: the pistachio was super rich, with tiny pistachio pieces (no fake flavor, just mild sweetness). The hazelnut was even better—creamy like melted butter, with a strong nutty aroma. It left a faint hazelnut aftertaste, not cloying at all—even my friend who hates sweet food stole bites from my bowl! The best surprise? The server said they just opened a Boston location! It’s on High St, not far from Quincy Market. Now Boston friends don’t have to drive to Portland for this authentic Italian gelato—stop by after shopping, it’s a total dessert lover’s win 🥳! 📍 Gorgeous Gelato (Portland): 434 Fore St, Portland, ME 04101 📍 Gorgeous Gelato (Boston): 100 High St, Boston, MA 02110 ✨ Recommendations: Pistachio, Hazelnut (classic, no misses), Tiramisu (with coffee aroma, great for cutting grease) 💡 Tip: Get a split to try two flavors. The cone is freshly baked—crunchy enough to crumble, worth adding $1 for it! 📝 Day Trip Summary: Eat Well Even with a Tight Schedule! Even though I only stayed half a day, these two spots covered “seafood freshness” and “dessert sweetness”—Street & Co.’s lobster pasta was amazing, and Gorgeous Gelato’s gelato was silky smooth. Best of all, there’s a gelato location in Boston, so craving it later is easier! If you’re in Portland short on time, these two spots won’t waste your appetite~ #BostonLife #BostonFood #NorthAmericanLife #PortlandFood #SeafoodLovers #ItalianGelato #DayTripFoodGuide
