Los Angeles|✨Sonoratown|Experiencing DTLA at Night 🌙

Sonoratown 📍 208 E 8th St, Los Angeles Quick take: I thought taco stands in California would be super authentic, but this one was just okay—not sure why it has such high Google reviews. 🤔 💯 My Ratings (out of 10): Taste: 6/10 Ambiance: 6/10 Value: 7/10 Overall: 6/10 I’ll be sharing more California food spots along with travel tips and stories bit by bit~ Since we’re in California, I figured we had to try some tacos—being so close to Mexico, I expected them to be way more authentic than what we get in Canada 🍁. Especially since I had amazing tacos in New York that left a great impression, my expectations were pretty high. This was our first meal after arriving in LA—pretty brave of us, two girls wandering around DTLA at night! It was honestly shocking—DTLA was so empty at night, almost no one on the streets, and most restaurants were dead quiet. Where did everyone go? Compared to Toronto at night, I’ve never seen such a deserted downtown. Some streets felt dirty and sketchy, and while we saw a few homeless people (less aggressive than in New York, more like “stationary NPCs” you could avoid), it was still unsettling. Back to the tacos: we ordered three kinds—beef intestine, chorizo, and grilled beef. The seasoning was good—spicy and bold! But the beef intestine was way over-fried, turned into greasy crumbs, and tasted bitter. The chorizo and grilled beef were alright. Final thoughts: wouldn’t recommend this spot, and maybe avoid wandering around DTLA at night—feels risky and there’s not much to see. Have you tried Sonoratown or explored DTLA after dark?
