🍣 Los Angeles Exploration | Sushi Yuen
A hidden omakase gem in Rowland Heights, located in a small plaza, by reservation only. There are about 10 seats per session, and the door is locked before the scheduled time to avoid walk-in guests. You don't need to book days in advance; we made a reservation for dinner on the same day after lunch (on a weekday) and still got a table. The experience includes 20 courses, which I believe is quite thoughtful for an omakase that offers not only fish and shrimp but also sea urchin, wagyu, and crab. We chose a bottle of Fukuju Black, with peach and pear aromas, and the chef gave a thumbs up, saying: good choice 🤣 The chef loves to joke around. When serving the fish soup, he pretentiously told everyone: This is a Hermes bowl, don't drop it (as if everyone hadn't noticed) 🤣 He mentioned that three generations of his family are chefs, including his cousins, but he doesn't like cooking for himself and orders Uber Eats at home 🤣🤣🤣 Everyone was laughing. At the end, he asked if I was full, and I batted my eyes saying I wasn't, wondering if there was a surprise. Instead, he turned to my cousin and said: please kick her out 🙃 The whole place laughed again. The overall experience was great, with a mix of raw and cooked dishes served alternately. From selecting the cups and sake pots to finishing dessert, it took a little over two hours. The dessert plates were Dior, perfect for photos with your girlfriends. I went with my family in casual wear and didn't take any nice photos, which is a bit sad 🥹 I'm not very knowledgeable and would like to ask, why is crab and sea urchin always served with yuzu jelly? Are there any restaurants with more innovative ways of dealing with the fishiness? #LA #LosAngeles #BayArea #LosAngelesFood #LALife #LosAngelesTravel #LAExploration #Omakase #BayAreaLife #JapaneseCuisine
