I do not typically post negative reviews, because I don’t normally post positive reviews unless service is hard to match! My 9 year old has been reminding me to post a review about this place for the last 15 days because her experience was so bad. We came from Vegas and haven’t had sushi since May. My daughter was begging me to get sushi because it’s something we enjoy for daddy daughter dates. Found this place on instagram and if you’ve been to Vegas that’s the best way to find local eateries, so I thought I would try to apply this to our new home . We were met by an older Asian woman who sat us and barely made any eye contact while she serviced us throughout the meal . My daughter likes simple sushi (ie & shrimp tempura rolls) so I ordered two and gyozas for my 6 year old . The woman brought us miso soup and salad, when this happen she added rice to my daughters soup without asking us if this was okay, my kids were legitimately confused but just whispered to me “daddy I didn’t want rice in my soup”(I assumed this is normal practice for some children). I didn’t make a big deal because the whole time we were ordering she wouldn’t speak.. she would point and gesture , even rattling plates on the table at me, trying to communicate for me to use One . My daughter said “ maybe she doesn’t speak English” then less than a minute later she’s talking across the room to a couple she is also waiting on, with a very pleasant tone. Was kind of weird but okay .. we are just trying to enjoy a meal. The sushi came out and it was very underwhelming, gyozas tasted very good .. but it was truly hard to finish the sushi. We did not want to complain so We just ate what we could and asked for the check. When she came to collect the check she looks at my daughter and says” next time you get the California roll because you’re wasting food “ My daughter looked at her and said thank you for the advice . She did not ask if we enjoyed the meal she went directly to insulting a child . Easily the worst overall experience I’ve had with my kids in what was supposed to be a reputable establishment. My daughter left there wondering why she treated others better than us . We are African American service members , and I had to reassure my daughter that it Might not be because of the color of our skin and some people just aren’t aware of how they come off … sadly my worst experience...
Read moreSome plusses, but disappointed overall. I went to eat here alone. I was warmly greeted when I entered and I liked the atmosphere, although the music was a bit tweenager-ish. I had to wait about two minutes to be seated, which was fine. The entire staff was pleasant and welcoming, except for the waiter I drew. Perhaps he resented that I was a lone diner sitting at a table instead of the bar, but his initial greeting was rude and he was never pleasant the way other staff were treating their customers. Ok, now food. I ordered the tempura appetizer, the sashimi and sushi diner, and a glass of wine - $51 total. The dinner comes with miso soup and a lettuce salad. The lettuce salad had quite a bit of brown lettuce and I didn't eat it. The miso soup.was pretty good. The tempura was not quite crisp and almost doughy. I've had worse tempura, but never for that high of price. The sushi and sashimi dinner included 6 nigiri and 12 pieces of sashimi. The nigiri rice was a bit dry and under seasoned, but the fish on it was generous. The sashimi was pretty good quality, with some really beautiful, fatty tuna and some good salmon included (plus white tuna, which I'm not wild about). My biggest complaint is that the temperature of the sashimi and the nigiri was all over the place. Some was room temperature, some was really cold, and a few pieces were cold on one end and luke warm on the other, all on the same plate. It made for a very strange eating experience. Other than that, the wine was a generous pour, but not as good as I expected for the price. Overall, i might eat there again for 2/3 of the price, but I don't feel like I got a $50...
Read moreThe uni here is of the most excellent quality. This has become one of my highest tier of sushi restaurants in the state.
Highly highly recommended.
Update: They charged our table as 5 people instead of 3. They automatically added an extra large amount for tip that we didn't catch until after we left. Our group are generous people and added a hefty tip for the dinner, but did not realize another hefty tip was automatically added because they entered it as group of 5, when it was clearly only a group of 3.
We do not believe it was a simple mistake and the people signing the receipt are very old, but also experienced. I will go back here only because of just how high quality the Uni is, but they won't come back here again. They feel scammed out of an extra large tip since our order was around 400 or so.
To the server who obviously was desperate for extra tip money, congrats don't spend it all in one place, though you definitely lost high paying customers. I'm only eating the uni at your place, nothing more and then promptly leaving to go to other sushi restaurants for a full course.
Yes the uni here is that good, there are no other sushi places close to that quality. Yakishabu has great uni, but not this level. There are no other sushi restaurants that have this nice of uni in this area, they all taste off, leave a weird aftertaste, old or of low quality.
Warning: Always check your receipt before leaving this place. Scan the bottom part for extra people added in your group and extra tip. It's at the very bottom and buried in a paragraph, which frankly most people won't bother...
