Louisville, Kentucky Travel Guide

Louisville is the largest city in Kentucky. The state is not only the birthplace of KFC but is also famous for hosting the largest annual derby horse race in the U.S. This is why Kentucky is known as the "Horse Racing Capital." 🐎 1️⃣ Churchill Downs 2️⃣ Kentucky Derby Museum These two are located together—the museum is inside the Churchill Downs racetrack. This is one of the must-visit attractions in Louisville. Since its opening in 1875, when it hosted the first Kentucky Derby, it has been 148 years. According to the tour guide, the U.S. Derby is part of the Triple Crown series. The first leg takes place at this racetrack in Louisville, Kentucky; the second occurs five weeks later in Maryland; and the final leg is in New York. Derby horses must be three years old, and only 16-18 out of 40,000 horses qualify for the Kentucky Derby. ⚠️ Hours: Monday–Saturday: 8 AM–5 PM Sunday: 11 AM–5 PM ⚠️ Parking: Free 💡 It’s recommended to buy tickets on-site. The staff will provide a museum map and help you plan your visit. 💡 Don’t miss the horse racing film in the museum! It’s 20 minutes long, and after the movie, a guide will take you to the famous racetrack—you can’t enter the track on your own otherwise. 💡 After the racetrack tour, go see two retired Derby horses, Classic Smile and Ari. Smile is the taller one, born in 1998, who last raced in 2002. Now, he enjoys retirement grazing leisurely in the Derby stables. 😜 3️⃣ Waterfront Park This park offers a view of two landmark bridges: Big Four Bridge George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge 💡 Free parking is available right next to the bridge. 4️⃣ Big Four Bridge 5️⃣ George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge These are landmarks of Louisville. The recommended photo spot is called "Big Four Bridge Viewpoint," as well as the previously mentioned Waterfront Park. #Kentucky #Louisville #USTravel
