Read moreI was there for a big party at the Millionaires club on the fourth floor. For $100 you get entry to the club and a buffet bar and soda, water or coffee. There is a cash bar. The venue was acceptable with many round tables in a huge room with the ability to walk outside and undercover while you view the race which overlooks the finish line. I would give this area four stars.
The food however, is another matter. It’s banquet style, cafeteria type low quality food. It consisted of several cold entrée salads, such as German potato salad, regular toss, salad,, cucumber salad and a red cabbage salad. Vegetables included a curly noodle in slightly buttery sauce and zucchini and squash mix. The meat included breaded chicken cutlets and bratwurst along with cold rolls and butter. The dessert consisted of previously frozen chocolate chip cookies and previously frozen brownie bites. I would rate, the quality of the food at two stars. A buffet like this at other restaurants around town would probably cost in the range of $20-$25.
Overall I’m giving a rating of three stars. Seems to me if they had free alcoholic beverages more people would end up betting more money on the races, or at least a high-quality food buffet would make people want to stick around longer for more races and enjoy the food. If it wasn’t for my friends being around to talk with, I would’ve left much earlier.
For $100 I expected a much higher quality of food, at least perhaps a carving station and some type of red meat. I will think twice about returning to millionaires club for any...
Read moreWe were a large group from Australia to the 150th Derby at Churchill downs. Obviously we were very excited and we arrived at around 1130 am, we had tickets to the inner ring-paddock. The course is very impressive and the buzz was at fever pitch.!
The part that totally ruined it was 2 reasons, which are easy to fix and so annoying obviously. The main one was Zero shade from the sun, it was very hot, there close to 90, everyone was burning under the sun. When I say no shade, I literally mean no shade. They had one small area about 20sqm to eat some food in, but as soon as security saw you in the shade they would move you off. At this point there was about 30 thousand people in the area and all were looking cooked under the sun. Dont get me wrong, we were all from Australia, its basically 90% desert and we are use to the heat and sun, but you have to have shade.
The last point was the time spend queuing up for a drink, the average was 40 minutes to get a drink. Complete joke. They should have an area where you can only buy tins of beer etc. But they didn't, each bar area has a cocktail area in the beer area, and each cocktail was made fresh, which is nice. But it held up the queues to a 40 min wait.
After being to many races all over the world, the Churchill was by far the worst for this experience. Just put a beer in our hands within 5 mins and provide some cover for the lads and ladies who need out to the blazing sun.
Simple festival law, which is probably on page one in "idiots guide to...
