๐ Madison Izakaya โ Izakaya Kuroyama!
๐ฅณ Sharing a fun Japanese pub spot today โ Izakaya Kuroyama! ๐ Known for its delicious yakitori (grilled skewers)! ๐ Chicken Skin โ crispy and tasty (though some parts were a bit burnt) ๐ฎ Beef Tongue โ tender and flavorful ๐ Karaage (Japanese Fried Chicken) โ pretty good! ๐ฏ๐ต Okonomiyaki (savory pancake) โ unfortunately too thin and lacking ingredientsโฆ not recommended ๐ ๐ We also tried: ๐ Unagi Don (eel rice bowl) โ a bit too sweet, portion is small ๐ Gyudon (beef bowl) โ also sweet and not very special ๐ Chicken Ramen โ average taste, nothing standout โณ Note: Rice and ramen dishes took quite a while to arriveโฆ ๐ป But the atmosphere is fantastic! The izakaya-style decor is very authentic and eye-catching on State St. ๐ฎ ๐โโ๏ธ The servers were friendly and attentive, but none spoke Japanese. The menu is mostly in romaji (Japanese written in Latin letters), with very small English descriptions, so ordering was a bit challenging. ๐ฅข We also added scallop skewers and taiyaki ice cream (no pic sorry!) โ both were delicious! โ Overall: โ Skewers and appetizers = solid โ Rice dishes & ramen = skip next time ๐ค Still curious about the $12 chawanmushi (steamed egg custard) โ whatโs inside?! ๐ Location: 419 State St, Madison, WI 53703 โ look for the red lantern! ๐ฎ #Madison#Izakaya #JapaneseFood #Yakitori #MadisonEats #StateStreetEats
