Marseille! North African Flavors with a "Northeastern Chinese" Twist
Three days solo in Marseille, and I’m obsessed with North African food! It’s so aligned with Chinese tastes 🥹—meals cost just €10–13. ✔️ Dima-Café restaurant oriental My first time trying couscous, and it was a hit! The side dishes are stewed to soft, sweet perfection, with a tangy tomato base that’s addictive. The meat is grilled fresh, juicy and flavorful. Heads up: Their hot sauce is fiery! But they serve complimentary mint tea—lightly sweet and refreshing, the perfect balance. 🍵 ✔️ Restaurant Le Tunisien My first meal after getting off the train, and wow—Tunisian seafood pasta with a fragrant, herb-infused sauce. If you love spice, tell them "super spicy"—you won’t regret it! They brought out a huge bowl, and I was shocked by the portion—so much food, so satisfying. 🍝 A legendary spot since 1952, with a solid reputation and stunning views (think cozy, coastal vibes). Before your meal, the server brings out a tray of fresh fish to explain your ingredients—such a nice touch! The broth is served first; you add the flaky fish and potatoes yourself. Pro move: slather the mini bread with rouille (that saffron aioli) and dip it in the soup—that’s how the locals do it! ⭕️ RESTAURANT TAGINE MAM'S IYA I wanted to try Moroccan tagine, but this didn’t win me over. The presentation was plain, and the flavor felt underwhelming. Maybe it’s just this spot—tagine lovers, feel free to hunt for a better one! 🤷♀️ ✔️ Glacier Bio Le Métropole A bit pricey (€6 for two scoops), but the black sesame flavor is chef’s kiss—nutty, rich, and so good. Mango was fresh too, though the two flavors didn’t quite pair. Still, a nice sweet treat after a meal! 🍨 Marseille’s North African food scene is a hidden gem—hearty, bold, and surprisingly comforting for Chinese palates.
