Mount Rainier Adventure | Weekend Getaway from Seattle 🏞️🐾⛰️
Our recent trip to the southern part of Washington State offered a perfect mix of wildlife encounters, outdoor adventures, and delicious food stops. Here's our complete experience: 📍 Northwest Trek Wildlife Park (11610 Trek Dr E, Eatonville, WA 98328) This drive-through wildlife park gave us a taste of the wild West, though with some unexpected limitations: • Animal sightings: Mostly distant buffalo and deer (our midday visit might have been a factor) • Glass vehicles: Great for visibility but got warm in the sun • Interactive experiences: No hands-on animal encounters as advertised • Highlights: Amazing playground that kept our kids entertained for hours Indoor exhibit with impressive animal specimens Touchable fur and bone displays (kids LOVED this!) 💡 Verdict: Convenient location but not a must-visit unless you're already in the area. The playground alone almost justifies the trip for families! 🏕️ Ike Kinswa State Park Campground (13405 Kinswa Rd, Yelm, WA 98597) This hidden gem saved our trip when friends had to cancel: • Facilities: Spotless bathrooms with showers (similar to Deception Pass quality) • Activities: Perfect for kayaking and swimming in the nearby lake • Location: Surprisingly close to Mount Rainier 🍳 Brunch at Lemon Tree Cafe & Espresso (East State Street, Mossyrock, WA) Fuel for our Mount Rainier adventure: • Delicious brunch with fresh, local ingredients • Cozy atmosphere perfect for post-camping recovery 🏔️ Mount Rainier National Park (Entrance near Ashford, WA) Our Independence Day weekend climb had surprises: • Entry: No reservation needed (yet!) but lines formed quickly • Flowers: Only white blooms visible (peak wildflower season was over) • Weather: Warm shirts for climbing, jackets needed at base • Snow conditions: Left fork: Longer but gentler slope with melting snow Right fork: Steeper, shadier, and more challenging 💪 Pro tip: We summited via the easier route but took the challenging path down - definitely harder with snow and sun angles! 🍲 Dinner at Renton Seafood Restaurant (Northeast 4th Street, Renton, WA) Perfect ending to our adventure: • Crispy roast duck (still our favorite!) • Delicious pigeon dish (try it if you're adventurous!) #SeattleWeekendEscape #MountRainierHike #NorthwestTrekJungle #FamilyAdventure #PacificNorthwest #OutdoorFun #CampingWithKids #WildlifeSafari #SeattleFoodie #WeekendWarrior
