Museum at the Former Naval Site

💦Antiguo Arsenal de la Marina Española 💡This former Spanish naval shipyard, located on the edge of Old San Juan, still bears the scars of 18th-century cannon fire on its weathered coral stone walls. 🎵As we passed through the arched gateway, the caretaker reminded us to watch our step—the threshold stone bore an inscription from 1892, marking the year of its final expansion. 🌊The exhibition hall, originally an arsenal, features a seven-meter-high dome that creates a natural resonance for music. Although the exhibition labels are all in Spanish, the audiovisual experience remains fully accessible. 🌈We put on headphones to listen to Puerto Rican folk songs from the 1930s, while handwritten scores by local musicians were displayed beside a vintage wooden record player. ✅A charming small museum with compact exhibits that provide great insight into the island's history. ☀During my visit, there was only one exhibition, focusing on a ceramic factory established in the 1940s, with descriptions in Spanish. #NavalShipyard #Museum #OldSanJuan
