Must-Eat Middle Eastern Grilled Fish in Detroit! 🐟✨
Headed out of Detroit, but I had one last food mission: find that iconic grilled fish! 🎣 I did my research and had a few spots in mind: Dearborn Meat Market: Highly recommended by locals, but sadly, it was closed that day! 😭 With over 2k reviews, it seems like a true gem. Next time for sure! Al Ameer: This is the spot former President Clinton visited! I actually came here before with a group of Middle Eastern friends for their mixed grills, which were hearty but didn't blow me away. This time, I went for the RED SNAPPER (BAKED). 🐠 And WOW! It was incredibly fresh, tender, and flaky. It's barely seasoned, letting the natural flavor of the fish shine—and it was delicious! I asked for sauces on the side: a tangy, spicy tomato sauce that was amazing, and a white yogurt sauce that was just okay. The server was great—he explained the sauces are usually for less oily white fish, but he gladly brought them for me. 👍 ( Avoid the tap water here... just trust me on this one. 🚱) Aliz Seafood and Grill House: The reviews scared me off—talk of bad service, dirty bathrooms, and long waits. Since I was catching a flight, I didn't risk it. 🏃♀️✈️ It looks fantastic as a dedicated seafood spot, though (a bit pricey, but maybe not more than Al Ameer). Al Chabab: Seems famous, but I don't think they focus on seafood. Darbunah Restaurant: Another one for the list! After dinner, I went to Qahwah House. They sell "history in a cup," and with 2.4k reviews, I was intrigued! It's a chain (they have one in NYC too), and the ambiance descriptions online are spot-on. Yemeni Tea 🍵: The staff warned me NOT to add milk, as it would ruin the fragrance. It started simple but got better with each sip—notes of cardamom, clove, and a light touch of cinnamon (thankfully, not too strong, or I wouldn't have liked it!). I liked it so much I bought half a pound of tea bags to take home! Adei Tea: This one's more like a milk tea, but I found it a bit too astringent for my taste. The server was super nice and gave me a huge cup just to try! 👅 Coffee ☕: I also got a regular coffee—it was quite bitter. They offered me a sniff of the Mofawar coffee grounds, which smelled amazing, but I didn't buy any since I don't have a coffee maker at home. Their sweets looked pretty good too! Final Verdict: The grilled fish at Al Ameer is a must-try Detroit experience! As for the famous cafe... it's an interesting cultural stop, but maybe not a must for everyone. #Detroit #Food #GrilledFish #MiddleEasternFood #ChicagoTravel #YemeniCoffee #FoodReview #MustTry #AlAmeer #QahwahHouse
