My Eye-Opening Trip to Detroit
Visiting Detroit truly changed a lot of what I thought I knew! Safety — I was a bit worried before coming, but downtown felt incredibly safe! 🏙️👮♂️ We were out until past 10 PM, streets were lively with people enjoying the night, and police cars were visibly parked around. Didn’t see a single unhoused person in the downtown core. Of course, there may still be less-safe areas, but the common tourist zones felt completely fine. Public Transit — The city’s streetcar (QLine) and people mover are completely free! 🚈🎉 They were still running after 10 PM — clean, convenient, and felt secure. I’ve traveled to many cities worldwide and have never encountered entirely free public transit. Heard it’s part of the city’s revitalization effort. Detroit’s government really knows how to make a statement 👍. Local Pride — Every local I met genuinely loves their city and believes things are getting better. That surprised me — based on Detroit’s past economic struggles, I expected more pessimism. Instead, people seemed hopeful and proud 🌟❤️. Henry Ford’s Hidden Story — Even a business genius like Henry Ford faced major failures. He once invested heavily in airplane R&D, lost over $5.5 million, and tragically lost the pilot he saw as an adopted son ✈️💔. At the time, the average worker’s yearly salary was around $2,000. A humbling reminder that even legends face setbacks. #Detroit #USA #Travel #Christmas #Michigan #CityRevival #DowntownDetroit #FreeTransit #TravelImpressions #LocalPride #HenryFord #DiscoverDetroit 🚗🗽❄️
