My First Time Seeing Wild Sea Otters and Their Babies Up Close! 🦦💕

Today, while having breakfast on a bench along the coastal path opposite the White Water Hotel, a friendly local stopped to chat. We mentioned we were hoping to see sea otters and asked if they knew any good spots—since we knew Cambria is right in the heart of their habitat. The local told us they’d just been to Morro Bay a couple of days ago, rented a boat, and saw loads of sea otters! They suggested we give it a try if we were interested. The weather was absolutely perfect—calm seas and sunny skies, ideal for a boat trip! 🚤☀️ We finished our meal quickly and drove straight there. On Main Street in Morro Bay, there are plenty of rental places. We found a highly-rated one on Google called Estero Adventure, with a 5-star rating! They rent out electric pontoon-style boats. The boat was new and fits up to 10 people, with a minimum rental for two. It cost 106 per hour, plus 10 for each additional person. Super easy to drive, and you stay within a designated area. Just about 100 meters out, we spotted a mama sea otter with her baby playing in the water! Nearby, an adult male was spinning circles in the water—so active and fun to watch! Later, we sailed to another area and saw more than ten otters floating peacefully on their backs, napping. 😴🌊 Since boats aren’t allowed to get too close, we returned to shore and rented kayaks instead. This time, we could glide much closer to them! 🛶 It’s sea otter pup season right now, so we saw lots of babies nursing and snuggling on their moms’ bellies—absolutely heart-meltingly cute! 🥹❤️ This was our first time seeing so many sea otters up close, and it felt truly magical. How wonderful it is to witness such a harmonious connection between humans and nature! 🌿🤝 Highway 1 is full of hidden gem towns—each with its own unique charm. Even after visiting many times, there’s always something new to discover. Have you ever seen sea otters in the wild?
