Nara Nanto Daian-ji (Great South Capital Temple) ๐ฟ
The Nara Nanto Daiji primarily houses the collections from various major temples in the Nara region. ๐ข๐ For temples like Horyu-ji, Todai-ji, and Toshodai-ji, which have their own museums, their collections are relatively accessible. ๐๐บHowever, for most other temples, important artifacts are only displayed during the spring and autumn "kaicho" (open treasury) periods, and they are arranged in their original settings within the temple grounds. While this arrangement creates an authentic atmosphere, it's not as clear and detailed as viewing them in a museum setting. ๐ข๐ Each has its own merits. ๐ Temples around Nara can be quite spread out and difficult to visit individually, so seeing a concentrated display like this is incredibly rewarding. ๐ฟ ๐๐บTensho Koku Shucho (Embroidered Canopy): I was disappointed to have missed the display at Chugushiji last time due to a scheduling error. Shigisan Engi Emaki (Origin of Shigisan Scroll): One of my expectations. This time, the third scroll, the Nyoiko Scroll, was on display. ๐ข๐ Last autumn, it seemed like the second scroll was shown at the temple. Jokoji is a bit far, and it's a bit of a hassle to visit. ๐๐บVimalakirti Statue: I saw it last time at Hokekyoji. Compared to the images of Chinese literati, this is a very Japanese interpretation of Vimalakirti, always at the forefront of localization. ๐ฟ #Nara ๐ #NaraNantoDaiji ๐ฏ
