New Thai Spot in Pasadena — The Holy Basil Rice I Can’t Forget!
Is Pasadena the new Thai Town? While Hollywood’s Thai district gets all the hype, I’ve discovered that Pasadena is quietly packed with authentic, outstanding Thai restaurants. The latest gem: Thai Thyme, newly opened across from Huntington Hospital—and it’s already winning hearts! 🏥💚 Though less than a month old, this is actually their second location (the first is in Monrovia Old Town and is super popular—I’ve been many times!). The Pasadena menu is just as strong, focusing on genuine Thai flavors, with a few standout stars I’m still dreaming about: 🌿 Holy Kaprow (Holy Basil Rice) A major reason I’ll be back! This is the first time I’ve had holy basil rice with pickled bamboo shoots—tangy, fragrant, totally addictive, and completely unique to this spot. 🥣 Tom Kha Seafood (Coconut Galangal Soup) Anyone else prefer this creamy, aromatic soup over tom yum? For me, it’s the true test of a Thai restaurant’s authenticity—and theirs is rich, fragrant, and way above average. 🦐 Jumbo Prawns A must-order! These giant shrimp are grilled to golden crispiness, with rich tomalley inside—just like the street-side seafood grills in Bangkok. I’ve visited their Monrovia location many times—their fried rice, curries, and fried chicken are all fantastic (though their pad thai can be just okay, FYI). Don’t skip dessert—the fried ice cream is seriously delicious! 🍦 At the new Pasadena spot, service was a bit slow due to the crowd, but the food is a solid 10/10 💖 📍 Thai Thyme Pasadena 123 W California Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91105 #100RestaurantChallenge #FoodInspo #LADining #LAEats
