Newcomer One-Star Seafood Spree with a Twist of South American Flair

🌟A South American bistro recommended by DC native friends, it’s been raking in awards since its recent opening. Downstairs, Causa focuses on fine dining with a tasting menu, having earned a Michelin star this year. Upstairs, Amazonia offers an a la carte menu with a strong South American seafood focus, and you can even choose daily fresh catches from the fish market for grilled fish. 🍸 Besides the food, their cocktails are also packed with South American character, emphasizing herbal flavors and often using smoking techniques. The drink menu is extensive, and I’d love to try them all if I get the chance. 🌟▪️ SCALLOPS A LA PARMESANA Cheese-grilled scallops, the salty-nutty flavor of Parmesan cheese pairs well with the sweet-spicy aji sauce, a nice combination that’s not too heavy. 🌟▪️ CAUSA NORTEÑA A tangy sauce with a hint of fruity sweetness, very typical South American flavor, complements the creamy potato puree and the sweet avocado puree underneath. 🌟▪️ PATACONES / INGUIRI NIGIRI These little bites mimic sushi, with a base of fried plantain for the mushrooms and a seasoned rice ball for the ham.Personally, I find the flavor a bit rough. 🌟▪️ LOMO SALTADO South American fried rice, tastes like egg fried rice with ketchup, decent but not very special. 🌟▪️ PULPO AL JOSPER This octopus potato puree is fantastic! The top layer of powder has a salty, almost dried vegetable or seaweed-like flavor that pairs nicely with the sweet potato puree. The octopus meat underneath is thick, tender, and glutinous, with a sauce that tastes similar to Korean hot sauce, bursting with quinoa crispiness as you chew. The flavors blend harmoniously, and the texture is layered and rich. ▪️ Grilled Fish The fish is matured, with crispy skin and tender meat, but the seasoning is actually quite ordinary and not flavorful enough. It’s not as aromatic as one would hope. 🧁 The first dessert is their signature, a matcha and mint combination with the addition of passion fruit flavor, strange yet delicious. The second is like an acai bowl, nothing special but not bad. #WashingtonDCFood #WashingtonDCRestaurants #SouthAmericanCuisine #MichelinRestaurantExploration #MyFoodDiary
