Oklahoma | AKAI Sushi: A Great Pick for Japanese Food 🍣🤩👍
Right after checking out Oklahoma’s iconic Ferris wheel in my last post, I found this sushi spot just a stone’s throw away – so I hurried over on foot, excitement building 🚶! The neighborhood itself was such a delight: lined with colorful little townhouses and cozy restaurants, it felt super lively. There were tons of locals around, and the vibe was so chill with soft background music floating through the air. Even the kids were running around in Oklahoma City Thunder jerseys, which added such a fun, local touch ⚾! Walking up to AKAI Sushi, I almost missed the entrance at first – the door was surprisingly heavy (I didn’t even realize it was the entrance at first 😂)! But once I pushed it open, it was like stepping into a whole new world. The interior had that warm, inviting Japanese restaurant feel – not too fancy, but totally welcoming. The server greeted us right away and asked if we wanted to sit in the bar area, solo sushi train section, or group dining area – such a nice touch for different needs! Then they handed us menus, utensils, and icy cold water 🧊 – perfect for beating the Oklahoma heat (or just quenching your thirst before a feast). We decided to split one main each to try more things, and let me tell you – no regrets! Fried Rice: It was packed with plump, juicy shrimp 🦐 – every bite had that fresh seafood flavor, and the rice was seasoned just right, not too greasy. Ramen: The noodles were chef’s kiss 👩🍳💋 – springy and chewy, holding onto the savory broth perfectly. Even the broth itself had a rich, depth of flavor that made me sip it slowly. But we knew we couldn’t stop there – so we added two more dishes to make sure we didn’t leave hungry: 3. Salmon Sashimi: So tender it practically melted in my mouth, with that lovely, subtle milky sweetness fresh salmon has 🐟. No fishy aftertaste at all – just pure goodness. 4. Chef’s Special Sushi Roll (recommended by our server!): This was hands down the star of the meal ✨! Let me break down the layers – inside, there was crispy tempura shrimp, spicy salmon, and spicy tuna; on top, fresh mango and creamy avocado; and it was drizzled with crispy burdock strips, spicy sesame garlic mayo, and eel sauce. Every bite was a explosion of flavors – sweet, spicy, creamy, crispy – I could’ve eaten a whole plate by myself! And I have to give a special shoutout to our server, Bekah L – remember that name if you go! She was so upbeat, friendly, and full of energy 😊. When she saw us staring at the cute black napkins (they had a fun design!) and trying to figure out how to fold them, she came over and showed us step by step – no awkwardness, just genuine kindness. It’s little moments like that that make a meal feel extra special. All in all, this was such a fantastic dining experience – great food, awesome service, and a vibe that made us want to stay longer. I’ve attached the receipt below (before tip, for reference)! If you’re in Oklahoma City and craving Japanese food, don’t sleep on AKAI Sushi – it’s a total win.
