Ottawa Food Adventure: The Perfect Omurice & More! 🍳🍚

Just made a trip from Montreal to Ottawa and had to stop by Tie Ban Tang for their famous omurice – and it did not disappoint! The service was fantastic, and the food left us completely satisfied. Here’s a detailed breakdown of everything we tried: 🍛 Omurice with Eel & Cheese I went for the unagi (eel) omurice and added cheese for extra indulgence. While the cheese didn’t make a huge difference, the dish itself was absolutely delicious. The egg was fluffy and soft, wrapping around perfectly seasoned fried rice. The eel was tender and flavorful, and the sauce tied everything together beautifully. Highly recommend! 🥥 Coconut Chicken Soup The broth was fragrant and comforting, with a nice coconut aroma. However, the chicken was a bit dry, which was disappointing. If you’re craving soup, it’s decent, but not a must-order. 🔥 Teppanyaki Rice (Friend’s Order) Since teppanyaki is their specialty, my friend went for one of their sizzling rice dishes. Verdict? Delicious! The rice had a great smoky flavor, and the toppings were well-balanced. If you’re unsure what to get, their teppanyaki options are a safe bet. 🌶️ Chongqing Noodles with Pork Intestine This dish was a spicy, numbing masterpiece! You can customize the heat level, and the braised pork intestine was rich and flavorful. The best part? Free noodle refills! If you love bold, spicy flavors, this is a must-try. 🍝 Tomato-Based Teppan Pasta (Friend’s Order) The tomato sauce was way too acidic for our liking. If you prefer a sweeter, more balanced tomato pasta, this might not be the one for you. 📍 Location & Final Thoughts Tie Ban Tang 710 Somerset St W, Ottawa, ON K1R 6P5 Overall Rating: 8.5/10 ✅ Highlights: Omurice, Chongqing noodles, teppanyaki rice ❌ Lowlights: Dry chicken in soup, overly acidic tomato pasta ☕ Post-Meal Coffee Stop: Dao Coffee After lunch, we headed to Dao Coffee for dessert and drinks. 🍞 Hattendo Melon Pan I was excited to try their famous cream-filled buns, but sadly, the bread was too soggy from the custard filling. Not my favorite. 🍰 Macarons & Cake The macarons ($3.50 each) were excellent – crisp shells with flavorful fillings. Their cakes also looked amazing, though we didn’t try them this time. 🍹 Lychee Jasmine Tea A standout! Refreshing, floral, and lightly sweet – the perfect drink to end the meal. 100% recommend. Final Verdict If you're in Ottawa and craving Japanese comfort food, Tie Ban Tang is a solid choice. Stick to their omurice, teppanyaki, and spicy noodles, and skip the soup if you’re picky about tender meat. And if you need a post-meal caffeine fix, Dao Coffee’s lychee jasmine tea is a winner! #OttawaEats #JapaneseFood #Omurice #FoodieAdventures #OttawaFoodie #NoodleLover #CoffeeBreak #TravelEats #MustTryOttawa #ComfortFood
