Portland 3-Day Food & Sightseeing Diary 🍳

I spent just 3 days in Portland, but my stomach was fully satisfied—I ate Bing Mi’s jianbing (Chinese pancake) 4 times, and even packed one to go before leaving; Nong’s Hainanese chicken rice wasn’t as good as LA’s Yibao Restaurant, but the chicken soup was a nice surprise; Less and More’s coffee was solid as always. However, Trillium Lake and Multnomah Falls were packed on the holiday—great for people who love crowds, but not so much if you want peace and quiet. 🍜 Food Highlights: Jianbing Steals the Show, Others Are "Okay But Not Amazing" ① Bing Mi Jianbing|4 Meals in 3 Days! The Pancake Crust Is Addictive I just stopped by for a casual breakfast, but fell in love with Bing Mi’s jianbing on the first bite—the crust is made fresh on a griddle, crispy on the outside and soft inside, with a faint wheat aroma (no dryness like some places). The sauce is the star: perfectly balanced sweet and salty, wrapped around crispy fried dough, lettuce, and sliced pork tenderloin—every bite is crunchy and satisfying 🍳. We had it for breakfast, lunch, even a snack over 3 days. On our last day, we made a detour to pack one for the road—seriously, finding such authentic jianbing abroad makes you miss it for days. Next time I’m in Portland, my first meal will definitely be this! ② Nong’s Khao Man Gai (Hainanese Chicken Rice)|Not as Good as LA’s Yibao, But the Soup Saves It I’d had amazing Hainanese chicken rice at LA’s Yibao Restaurant, so I was excited to try this popular spot in Portland. Honestly, the chicken was tender but lacked that "chicken oil fragrance," and the ginger dipping sauce was too mild—it’s definitely not as good as Yibao’s version 🐔. But the chicken soup was nice! There was a layer of oil on top, but it tasted rich and simmered slowly, pairing well with the chicken oil rice. If you haven’t tried LA’s version, this is a "decent casual meal," but if you have, you’ll notice the gap. ③ Less and More Tiramisu Coffee|Solid as Always, No Letdown I’d heard about this café before, so I tried the tiramisu latte—the foam was as creamy as ice cream, mixed with cocoa aroma (not too sweet), and the coffee underneath was slightly bitter, balancing the foam perfectly. I didn’t get bored even until the last sip ☕️. It wasn’t as amazing as their black sesame latte, but it’s a great "everyday coffee"—perfect for a pick-me-up after walking around. 📸 Sightseeing: Packed on Holidays—Great for Crowd Lovers ① Trillium Lake|Crowded But Scenery Is Healing The parking lot was almost full when we went on the holiday, and the grass by the lake was covered with people having picnics—we even had to find angles to take photos without crowds. But the lake is so blue, with snow-capped mountains in the distance; on a sunny day, the sun glints on the water like gold. Even with the crowds, the view still lifted my mood 🚗. ② Multnomah Falls|Impressive Waterfall, But the Line Is Tiring As a must-visit waterfall in Portland, it was so crowded on the holiday that we had to line up to get into the viewing platform. But when I saw the two-tiered waterfall crashing down from above, with mist on my face, I thought "it’s worth it"—especially when walking to the bottom, listening to the water, you can feel the power of nature. But if you want to enjoy the scenery quietly, go on a weekday—otherwise, you’ll spend a lot of time waiting in line. All in all, these 3 days in Portland were half "chasing jianbing" and half "fighting crowds at scenic spots." There were small regrets, but I still ate well and had fun. Next time I come, my goal is clear: eat more Bing Mi jianbing, and visit the waterfall on a weekday! #PortlandEats #Jianbing #HainaneseChickenRice #PortlandSightseeing #InternationalStudentLife
