Princess from "Roman Holiday" — Palazzo Barberini
Palazzo Barberini is located in the heart of Rome, at the intersection of Via del Tritone and Via delle Quattro Fontane. It’s adjacent to the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps, making it one of Rome’s most important cultural landmarks. In the 1953 film "Roman Holiday," the embassy where Princess Anne stayed was filmed here, marking the beginning of her one-day adventure in Rome. 🌟 The Barberini family was one of the most influential families in 17th-century Rome, with Pope Urban VIII as a notable member. During his reign, Palazzo Barberini became a cultural and artistic hub, attracting many artists and scholars, including the famous painter Caravaggio, whose works are still on display in the palace's gallery. 🎨 🎬 Construction of Palazzo Barberini began in 1625. It is said that three great architects contributed to the palace's creation. The first was Carlo Maderno, who passed away in 1629, after which Francesco Borromini and Gian Lorenzo Bernini worked together to complete the project in 1633. The most famous feature of the palace is the grand staircase designed by Bernini, while the oval spiral staircase was designed by Borromini. The palace has a total of 187 rooms, many of which display the Barberini family crest: a bee, in their ceilings and sculptures. 🐝 🚗 Visitors can easily reach Palazzo Barberini by various means. The nearest metro station is Barberini–Fontana di Trevi, part of Line A of the Roman metro system. Additionally, several bus lines pass through the area. #RomanHoliday #CulturalLandmarks
