Review of Rome’s Viral Instagram Restaurant with 80k Reviews
Tonnarello is insanely popular on Instagram—basically every Rome food guide features it, and it has a 4.7 rating with over 80,000 reviews on Google Maps! It’s so popular that reservations aren’t accepted; I missed out on my first visit and only got to eat there on the second try. Today, I’ll share my review and tips on how to wait the shortest time to get a table . First, the verdict: It’s delicious—definitely worth a try! A wait under 30 minutes is acceptable, but waiting an hour would be a bit unnecessary. All the dishes we ordered were good: meatballs, carbonara, braised oxtail, and the dessert panna cotta were all tasty. The waitstaff are friendly and speak great English, and the menu is available in Italian, English, French, German, and Spanish—no wonder it’s a viral spot! Recommended Dishes: 1. Meatballs: Their meatballs are really good. I ordered meatball pasta, but the pasta wasn’t as impressive as the meatballs. If you love meatballs, you can order them a la carte—there are multiple preparation methods, including eggplant-based meatballs 🍝. 2. Carbonara: Made with fresh pasta and a non-greasy recipe, it’s delicious and can hold its own against Cantina e Cucina. If you’re worried about greasy food, this is the carbonara for you 🥚. 3. Braised Oxtail (Coda alla Vaccinara): The oxtail is tender and flavorful after slow cooking. The mashed potatoes are mixed with Parmigiano-Reggiano, giving them a smooth and rich texture 🥔. 4. Italian Panna Cotta (Pannacotta con le Fragole): It has a strong milk flavor, topped with cream and fresh strawberries. It’s so good that we finished it in just a few bites 🍓. Tips for the Fastest Wait: The restaurant is open all day. If you avoid weekends and choose the right time, the line moves quickly. Last time, I arrived at 8:45 PM (on a weekday) and was seated by 9:00 PM. The restaurant is large, so table turnover is fast. - For dinner: Go before 7:00 PM or around 9:00 PM. - For lunch: Go before 12:00 PM or after 2:00 PM. This way, you avoid peak meal times and wait much less. When waiting in line, remember to ask which line is for 2 people and which is for 4—they’re separate, so confirm before queuing! #Italy #ItalianFood #Rome #RomeFood #RomeViralRestaurants #RomePasta #RomeDesserts #ViralRestaurantReview #Tonnarello #HiddenGemRestaurantShare
