Rijeka: A City of Industry and Warmth
🌟Rijeka was my sole destination in the Kvarner Gulf—the largest city in this region. As a quintessential port city, Rijeka buzzes with energy from dawn, especially around its bustling docks and cargo terminals where ships come and go ceaselessly. 🌟Steeped in history, Rijeka dates back to at least Roman times (a surviving Roman gate, now under restoration, still reveals its ancient details). 💧But its golden age came under the Austro-Hungarian Empire, leaving behind Central European-style architecture that starkly contrasts with other Croatian coastal towns. 💧The compact Old Town unfolds along Korzo Street—Rijeka’s pedestrian heart. Key landmarks like the Clock Tower, St. Vitus Cathedral, and Resolution Square cluster here, drawing crowds even on a Monday. ⭕Nestled between mountains and sea, Rijeka’s oldest district, Trsat, clings to the hillside. The star here is Trsat Castle, a Roman-era stone fortress offering panoramic views. ⭕Beyond the Old Town, the harbor’s slender seawall promenade—both flood barrier and leisure path—made for a breezy stroll. Strong winds today only heightened the charm 😌. #Rijeka #CroatiaTravel #TravelDiaries
