Rome's City Museum
💫The Museo di Roma (Museum of Rome) is part of the civic museum network in Rome, Italy. ⭐️Established in the 1930s, it initially aimed to document the rapidly vanishing local history and traditions of "old Rome." However, through numerous donations and acquisitions of artworks, it has evolved into primarily an art museum. 💟The museum was founded by art historian Antonio Muñoz, director of the city’s Department of Antiquities and Fine Arts, making it Rome’s first civic museum. 💙While its collections originally served to illustrate and preserve the past, the museum now holds a significant number of artistic works—including approximately 5,000 sketches, prints, and antique illustrated books from Antonio Muñoz’s personal collection—transforming it into a notable art institution. 🌳The museum is housed in the Palazzo Braschi, a large Neoclassical palace located between Piazza Navona, Campo de' Fiori, Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, and Piazza Pasquino. ✅The palace was commissioned by Duke Luigi Braschi Onesti, nephew of Pope Pius VI. #Italy #Rome #MuseoDiRoma
