Rome's Most Serene Park 🌳✨

Reflecting on the most memorable moments of my time in Rome this year, I can’t help but think of that lovely afternoon spent walking and boating in the Borghese Gardens. 🚤 The Borghese Villa and Gardens were commissioned by Cardinal Scipione Borghese in 1613. While most friends are familiar with the renowned gallery (which was once the villa), many overlook the beautiful gardens outside. The entire garden is tranquil and cool, with few visitors. Walking through it feels like stepping into a medieval estate. Unlike other meticulously curated gardens, this one is in a semi-natural state, with plants growing freely. The ancient, weathered temples and fountains add to its charm, and the gravel paths crunch delightfully underfoot. Most visitors can be seen leisurely strolling, rowing a boat 🚣, or sitting on benches, lost in thought or chatting. If you’ve already explored all the attractions in the old town or feel a bit fatigued, consider dedicating some time to the gallery and this peaceful garden. It’s the perfect way to escape the hustle and bustle of Rome and end your visit on a relaxed note. Must-See Highlights in the Garden: Pincian Obelisk – A testament to Rome's fascination with ancient Egypt. Water Clock – A unique feature worth seeing. Boating on the Lake 🚣‍♀️ – There’s a Greek temple on the lake, dedicated to the healing god Asclepius. Siena Square – Designed in imitation of the famous Piazza del Campo in Siena (though I didn’t notice the resemblance when I visited Siena 🤔). Seahorse Fountain ⛲️ – A stunning fountain with a flowing water feature, themed around seahorses and nymphs. If you're visiting Rome in the summer, I recommend entering the gallery around 2:30-4:00 PM. This way, you can enjoy the air conditioning during the hottest part of the day, and the garden will be pleasantly cooler when you head out afterward. Tickets are required for the gallery; you can find details on how to book in my previous notes. #Europe #Italy #Rome
