Rome | Locals’ Recommended Century-Old Restaurant, Must-Try Carbonara

If you also think you have to try Carbonara when in Rome, this restaurant comes with a strong recommendation! We specifically asked local friends for a list of recommended restaurants, and this one was on it. It’s an established eatery nearly a century old—rumor has it you might run into celebrities here from time to time? But that’s not the main point. 😎 - ✅ Reservations available via official website in advance - ✅ Typical Roman cuisine; prices aren’t the cheapest, but the food is authentic and portions are generous The ambiance is lovely, and the waitstaff are warm and friendly—they were smiling the whole time. Such a joyful meal! 😊 🔹 Trippa alla Romana Tomato Braised Beef Tripe with Cheese—easily the most satisfying tripe we had during our trip. The seasoning is authentic, and the texture is perfect. Even friends who love Chinese-style seasoning raved about it; the cheese added an extra layer of richness. We even sopped up every last bit of sauce with bread! 🍞 🔹 Palla Vaccinara Fried meatballs stuffed with braised oxtail. Absolutely delicious—the oxtail was fall-off-the-bone tender. The portion isn’t too small; ordering one for 2 people is just right for a taste. 🥩 🔹 Rigatoni alla Carbonara Beyond our expectations!! Eat it while it’s hot—never let it cool down. The portion is huge, so sharing is a must! It uses rigatoni (thick, tube-shaped pasta), which is slightly al dente (with a subtle firmness in the center—we ate too fast to check properly!). It’s chewy and springy in the mouth, and only this type of pasta can hold up to the thick sauce. No cream added—just the most authentic egg and cheese sauce, rich and silky. The guanciale (cured pork cheek) has a smoky aroma, paired with the salty richness of cheese and the strong flavor of eggs. Every spoonful is coated in that golden, thick sauce! 🥚🧀 - ▪️ The Italian menu description is quite fun: “The undisputed queen: the owner’s soul-stirring Carbonara” - ▪️ Some reviews are hilarious too: “I love pasta, I was born for pasta. If you put this plate on a modern bathroom countertop, it could totally double as a sink!” 😂 🔹 Porchetta Slow-roasted spiced pork. As soon as we walked in, we saw staff slicing it, so we thought we’d give it a try—and it was fantastic! No unpleasant “porky” taste at all. The skin was crispy but a bit thick, so we only ate the meat. (P.S. There was a little bit of pork hair on it when served—if that bothers you, skip this dish.) 🐷 🔹 Tiramisu The portion is small, but it’s solidly good. We didn’t order the restaurant’s signature dessert—if you go, feel free to give that a try! Or if you’re with a group, the dessert set is an option; it looks quite photogenic for a little “food styling” moment. 📸 🔹 Maritozzo panna fresca, nutella e pistacchi Cream bun. Pretty ordinary—it’s not only too sweet, but the bread is also really dry. Not recommended. ❌ 📍 Ristorante La Villetta dal 1940 Viale della Piramide Cestia, 53, 00153 Roma RM, Italy #GlobalFoodCriticContest #RomeFood #RomeRestaurants #Rome #Pasta #InspirationalRestaurantLaunch #RomeTravel #RomeTravelGuide #ItalianCuisine
