Rome | Trevi Fountain Maintenance?

Baroque fountains and more! Rome boasts over 2,000 fountains of all sizes, and of course, the most famous is the Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi). However, it's always packed with people! Recently, due to the upcoming Holy Year, the fountain is undergoing maintenance, and visitors can only admire the sculptures up close via scaffolding—coin tossing is off-limits for now. 💔 But let's not forget that Rome’s grand Baroque fountains go beyond just the Trevi! One example is the Fontana dell'Acqua Paola, known informally to Romans as the "Great Fountain," which shows just how massive it is. The construction took 80 years and was completed in 1693. ⏳ Interestingly, two of the architects involved in the fountain's design had the last name Fontana. In Italian, "fontana" means fountain—what a perfect fit for them! 😂 If you've paid attention to the Minerva Square near the Pantheon (which features a small elephant sculpture carrying an obelisk in the center), the white marble used to construct the fountain comes from the temple ruins located in the square. The top of the fountain features the papal tiara and keys, while above it is the Borghese family coat of arms (comprising an eagle and dragon supported by angels). The inscription praises Pope Paul V for bringing water to the residents of the area. ✨ #DiscoverItaly #Italy #Rome #TreviFountain #OffbeatTravel
